Ten years ago, Philly was a city bursting at the seams with hungry, raw talent itching for a chance to hijack the spotlight and show the world how the 215 gets down. Since then, Philly has established itself on the map as a hip-hop mecca with a distinguishable hard hitting style that's always delivered with a smooth and effortless flow. The Philly explosion of talent has most definately caught the eye of the industry, and paved the way for young up and comers like Roob to show the world what they can do. Roob (Dan Rubin) was born in the Spring of 85 in the NorthWest Philly suburb of Abington, PA. According to his parents, Roob was a calm, quiet baby who almost never cried or caused a ruckus, but that didn't last long... By the time he was old enough to start school, he was running around raising hell, always playing by his own set of rules. He got an odd satisfaction out of provoking the other children with words, and had his mouth washed out with soap constantly for using excessive amounts of profanity. He was taken to a behavioral specialist and diagnosed with ADHD, and the doctor suggested piano lessons to his mother as a positive outlet for his extra energy. Roob fell in love with music and instantly gave it a special place in his heart that has since only grown in size. He used to wake up extra early every saturday morning to catch the weekly Top 20 Countdown on MTV hosted by Daisy Fuentes. It was thru this weekly ritual that Roob got his first glimpse at the music videos for "Slam" by Onyx, and "Jump" by Kriss Kross. There was something about hip-hop that always has and always will have a magical effect on him. He wasn't just listening to it, he felt it. This was the first chapter of a novel that's nowhere near completion. Initially, Roob got into the game on the DJ side of things after watching in amazement as a friend took a beat from one song, the acapella vocal track from another, and mixed them together. Promising his friend he could make a better mix, Roob dove in head first, learned the basics, and bought his first pieces of equipment. Being a quick learner, it didn't take Roob long to develop interest in learning the art of beat making. From time to time, he still pulls out his keyboard and MPC to bang out a quick beat or 2. In March of 2007, Roob visited another Philly studio to present local rapper Flo-Dot and his engineer Etunez with a CD full of beats with hopes of making a sale. One stood out, and Etunez asked Roob if he wanted to hop into the booth and get on the track with Flo-Dot. Ever since this night, Roob has completely switched his focus from DJing and Producing to developing his previously unknown but undeniably evident talent as an MC. Roob has since invested thousands of dollars and countless hours of time and hard work into putting together a studio in his home and making the best use of it to develop his technique and make quality music. Every track he makes is hotter than the last, and it is only a matter of time before his music gets into the right hands and his career is launched to the next level. Roob is one of the most exciting young MCs to keep an eye on in 2009, and he promises his best work is yet to come.
